Detroit Office, Inc. works to encourage suburban businesses to relocate downtown

Eric "Dusty" Duistermars spent years as a leasing agent for several downtown buildings, so he knows the office market. He has decided to take that knowledge and use it to promote the area as a whole to suburban and out-of-state firms looking to relocate.

Duistermars founded Detroit Office, Inc., and calls it "a commercial office space version of City Living Detroit." He is working with leasing agents from many of downtown's office buildings "in an organized effort to unify the office community."

He acknowledges that many office towers are in competition with one another, but says, "We're all trying to survive — to do so, we need to support Detroit and all come together."

Duistermars has started a blog in the hopes of creating a community of office workers downtown that can share their experiences with others. Future plans include a series of office tower open houses -- the first, in May, will be at One Woodward -- and a calendar showcasing landmark towers.
