Downtowners with a hankering for Asian lettuce wraps or sesame beef stir-fry, but without the time for a sit-down lunch at
Small Plates, take note: Small Plates Express will open this week in the
First National Building.
The menu will feature the aforementioned entrees as well as sandwiches served with hand-cut potato chips, salads and fish and chicken tacos. "We're going to keep it fun and casual, a quick grab-and-go service," says owner Todd Stern. "It's going to take food and service up a notch in that part of downtown."
Stern is looking forward to having a presence in the vicinity of Campus Martius, pointing out One Kennedy Square's occupancy, Compuware's presence and Quicken Loan's impending move. "Also, with Hamilton Anderson moving into the First National, it's really creating a central focus and mass of people," he says.
Having opened Small Plates on Broadway five years ago, Stern is pleased with the rate of progress he has observed. "Think how far Detroit has come since 2002," he says.
