Streetscape
improvements around the old Statler Hilton Hotel site in the Grand
Circus Park neighborhood of downtown are finished.
New
sidewalks, curbs, streetlights, trees and grass have been planted
around and on the site. The work represents the finishing touches on
the $8 million Washington Boulevard streetscape project between Park
Avenue and West Lafayette Boulevard and the demolition of the old
Statler Hilton Hotel.
Although grass has been planted, the fences surrounding it will remain up to keep people and automobiles off the site.
There
is no definite timetable for redevelopment of the site, but it has been
mentioned in the media as a possible site for a new Rock
Financial/Quicken Loans headquarters.
The city tore down the
Statler Hilton Hotel and all but one of the surrounding buildings in
2005. The hotel took up most of the block bordered by Washington, Park,
Bagley Street and Clifford Street.
