Canine to Five remodeling, expanding small dog area

Canine to Five doggy day care is closing for a week for renovations and expansion. It will reopen on Jan. 31. Owner Liz Blondy recently purchased the building and thought it was time for a sprucing up.

"Now that I own the building, I feel a lot more comfortable investing in it," she says. "I plan to stay put, and want my customers to feel like the business not only takes great care of their dogs, but looks great too."

The facility will be doubling the size of its small dog area to 400 square feet and its grooming room to 600 square feet. The lobby is being remodeled, too.Canine to Five will also be sporting new T8 fluorescent lights in an effort to improve energy efficiency.

Blondy feels confident in the continued growth of her business. Daycare alone was up 25 percent from 2007 to 2008, and January 2009 has seen an increase of 28 percent from the same month last year.

On Thursday, Feb. 5, Canine to Five is hosting a small dog "pamper" party to debut its new small dog area. It is limited to dogs under 25 pounds, costs $5 per family and runs from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
