Massage therapy studio, Re:new Detroit, opens Downtown

Lisa Vel has opened Re:new Detroit, a massage therapy studio, with a focus on physiotherapy, stretching and muscle maintenance. Her target clients are musicians, waitstaff and people who sit at computers all day long. "I see everyday people as athletes," she says.

Vel, a Hamtramck resident, chose Downtown for her venture because of its "concentration of people" on weekdays and its relative quiet on the weekends. She returned to the city after a few years in the suburbs eager to connect with "quality people" she says she continually meets in Detroit.

Vel's peaceful studio is located on the second floor of the Murphy-Telegraph Building on Congress at Shelby. She can also bring her massage chair to an office or event, stating that 15 minutes in her chair "feels like a half-hour!"

Rates are $15 for 15 minutes, $25 for 30 minutes and $45 for an hour. She is offering some substantial discounts to ramp up interest in her services. Participants in the Detroit City Futbol League get one free mini-massage and any customer that makes two referrals gets a free 1/2-hour massage. "I love my clients, they're great, and they're going to refer me to people just like them," she says. "That's how it happens."

Re:new Detroit Sports Therapy Studio is located at 155 W. Congress, Suite 400. Call 313-903-3632.
