Round-up: Southwest Housing Solutions honored; deli opens in Capitol Park
Tuesday, September 23, 2008

Another round of quick hits in the Detroit development world:
The Whitdel Buildings, a 32-unit apartment building developed by
Southwest Housing Solutions
has been awarded the Special Impact Award by the Detroit chapter of Commercial Real Estate Women for the positive positive impact it has had in its surrounding neighborhood. Read more about the project, which targeted artists as tenants and includes a gallery,
here
.
And also, Southwest Housing Solutions was just named as the community development organization of the year by
LISC
. It manages 400 apartments in 24 historic buildings and has, in many ways, transformed its Southwest Detroit neighborhood.
A tenant of another Southwest Housing development, the Lithuanian Hall, has expanded its hours.
The Kumon Center
, located at 3570 W. Vernor, is adding a Saturday class from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in addition to classes after school every Tuesday and Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Call 313-849-5477.
A deli/market has opened at the southeast corner of State and Grand River in Capitol Park. It's nothing fancy, but it is clean and actually a step up from other stores in that neck of the woods.
