Round-up: Rosa Park Transit Ctr. open, Majestic Cafe being transformed, solar lights headed Downtown

Summertime means that things are heating up around town. It's hard to believe, but true. Here are a few tidbits:
  • It's finally open! Yesterday, the Rosa Parks Transit Center opened to much fanfare. Located at the corner of Michigan and Cass, the state-of-the-art center is open 24 hours and provides retail amenities as well as real-time bus arrival and departure signage.   • After all these years, the Majestic Theatre Center keeps upping its game. This time, it's the Cafe that's getting some attention. Over the next few months, it will be transformed into a 200-person capacity music venue and lounge that will offer also offer an eclectic menu of late night eats. 

    During that time it will be closed for renovations but open on selective dates for live performances and previewing:
    Monday, July 20: The Dutchess & The Duke and Bedouins - 8 p.m.
    Tuesday, July 21: The Datsuns, Turbo Fruits and Silverghost - 8 p.m.
    Saturday, Aug. 1: So Many Dynamos and Cast Spells - 8 p.m.
    Friday, Aug. 7: Wooden Wand - 8 p.m.
  • The City of Detroit Downtown Development Authority has received a $100,000 grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation to install solar-powered lights to brighten the facades of several downtown buildings: 1415,1520 and 1528 Woodward and the Historic Harmonie Club. The total project cost is $660,000; the DDA will provide the bulk of the necessary funds.
