Weight Watchers opens Detroit location at Harbortown

Weight Watchers is shooting for a slim-down in Motown. The weight-loss empire has opened a center at Harbortown, its first in Detroit in more than 30 years. "I've been wanting to do this for such a long time," says WW Group CEO Florine Mark, who found the E. Jefferson corridor to be the perfect location. "It's a wonderful little plaza -- people can walk, drive or take a bus."

The 2,000-square-foot facility will host twelve meetings a week and will also be open several days a week for walk-ins. While Weight Watchers has always operated traveling and corporate centers in Detroit, this will be the first stand-alone full scale center since they opened one in the Fisher Building in 1973.

Mark notes that rising obesity rates in Detroit prompted Weight Watchers to want to open a center in the city. The company operates about 40 centers in Southeast Michigan, 100 traveling centers that host one to two meetings a week and have approximately 250 corporate clients.

The Harbortown facility is located at 3378 E. Jefferson. Call 1-888-3-FLORINE for more information or to sign up.
