Vote online for Detroit talent in world's largest art prize sponsored by Miller Canfield

Detroit-Hamtramck artists Jessica Frelinghuysen, Chido Johnson, Clinton Snider-Scott Hocking (entered as a team), Robert Sestok, and others are entered in an open competition called ArtPrize, the biggest event of its kind in the world.

The competition is sponsored by MIchigan law firm Miller Canfield (which has an office in downtown Detroit) and held at the firm's Grand Rapids location. The public can vote online beginning this Wednesday (Sept. 22). There will be a second round of voting the following week when the number of artists is narrowed down to 10.

Excerpt:

The 18 artists featured are from all over Michigan and as far away as New York City.

In all, 1700-plus artists will participate in ArtPrize. Part arts festival, part social experiment, this contest is decided solely on public vote. Cash prizes total $499,000. Last year's competition brought over 200,000 visitors to downtown Grand Rapids and 334,219 votes were cast.
