Comm organizer turns cleaning passion into biz, Detroit Maid

Danielle Smith is one of those lucky people who likes to clean. So much so that the former community organizer has turned that passion into her own business, Detroit Maid.

"I have been cleaning as long as I can remember," Smith says. "I wanted to start my own business so this rose to the top."

The Midtown-based business got its start earlier this year with the help of D:hive's BUILD program. It started with a handful of clients and then with some help this summer from D:hive and the Adcraft Club of Detroit it rebranded and was able to scale its business. It now employs five people and has three more midway through its training program.

"It took off from there," Smith says. "Our business more than quadrupled."

Today, about 20 percent of Detroit Made's work is made up of commercial clients. The rest are residential clients. Smith wants to make that split even within the next year as she focuses on taking on my commercial clients and growing her team.
