Detroit Renaissance's new
Detroit Make It Here web site: Think of it as a Facebook for creatively inclined people in Metro Detroit.
The web site will serve as sort of a one-stop shop for news, networking and information for the region's creative class. Its users can create their own profiles while searching and mapping more than 1,600 local creative companies. The site will also post news and information relevant to the local creative economy.
The web site is part of greater Creative Corridor initiative headed up by
Detroit Renaissance. That effort focuses on forming a corridor of creative, new economy companies along Woodward Avenue between downtown and New Center. The hope is the Creative Corridor will play a major part in transforming southeast Michigan's economy while attracting and retaining talent.
The initiative's five-year plan includes creating 50 to 100 new businesses, 800 to 1,200 new jobs, a 10-percent annual increase in new investment dollars and a 10-percent increase in total property appraisals. Among the sectors targeted by the Creative Corridor are architecture, design, film, music and digital media.
