Detroit named a BikeTown USA
Detroit has been named as one of 11 BikeTown USA cities for 2006. The program, sponsored by Lipton, will donate bicycles to 50 Metro Detroiters based on the submittal of a brief essay that describes how winning a BikeTown bicycle would change the entrant’s lifestyle.
BikeTown is affiliated with Bicyling magazine. but is targeted to riders generally more inexperienced than their average reader. The program was developed to encourage more people to begin to cycle for both transportation and exercise. Winners of the essay contests will be tracked for three months and their stories will be incorporated into an issue of the magazine.
Other cities selected include Boston, Baltimore, Chicago, New York City, and Los Angeles. More information, as well as the entry form, can be found at http://www.bicycling.com/biketown2006/index.html
