Modern furniture and design collective Disturbed:Sleep to kick off at Re:View Gallery in Midtown

A modern furniture and design business is launching on August 8 at the Re:View Gallery on W. Willis. Disturbed:Sleep is a collective comprised of entrepreneur Dane Barnes and six other designers. The opening event will feature approximately six of Barnes' pieces and one from each of the other artists.

Barnes used some savings to get initial design prototypes made and set up a website. He is hopeful that the launch of Disturbed:Sleep will eventually generate enough business to purchase a location and equipment to be able to manufacture the furniture in-house. Currently, the designs are constructed by Detroit-based Dormouse. "My long-term goal is to find a permanent space for manufacturing and to have employees...to grow to a nice comfortable small size," he says. "Right now, we are micro-sized."

Barnes moved back to Michigan from New York City in January and was inspired to create a connection for local designers. "Everything will be locally-designed, locally-made...a local outlet for those connections," he says.
