Hip at the Whitney: Restaurant opens third-floor Ghost Bar

Classic Midtown destination The Whitney is finding ways to evolve and attract a new generation of customers while respecting its venerable tradition.

The third floor bar, while always a tad less formal than the rest of the mansion restaurant, is now being called the Ghost Bar with the tagline, "Come chill out with Detroit's favorite spirits."

The revamp has a more-contemporary feel than it did prior; club chairs and ambient lighting have been introduced. Owner Pat Liebler is shooting to attract clientele looking for good music and a classic bar experience -- not a club.

The Whitney has also introduced a private dining room on the first floor that can accommodate up to a dozen. The Chef's Table includes a six-course meal, each paired with a select wine, served personally by the chef. The prix fixe meal costs $125 per person and the table is seated just once per evening, by reservation only.
