On July 24, the Detroit Economic Growth Corp. broke ground on the first phase of improvements for the Paradise Valley Cultural and Entertainment
District at Harmonie Park. Plans include improved lighting, the installation of banners, sidewalk repair and replacement and park improvements.
The overall vision for the district aims to honor the African-American legacy
of Paradise Valley while developing commercial, retail, cultural and entertainment options that appeals to a diverse audience.
The Detroit Downtown
Development Authority purchased four buildings in the area for $10.1 million. DEGC, acting as the agency's staff, is accepting proposals from prospective tenants for the properties, which include The Harmonie Club at 311 E. Grand River, Harmonie Studios at 1502 Randolph, Harmonie Pointe at 1407 Randolph and Randolph Centre at 1435
Randolph.
The DEGC estimates the
total investment in the Harmonie Park area will be between $17 and
$19 million. The project is being
funded by the casino development fund, The Kresge Foundation and several other sources.
