Inside Detroit takes over storefront below Lofts at Merchant Row downtown

The former Mark England Collection at 1253 Woodward will get a new lease on life when Inside Detroit opens the storefront as a visitors center in June. The tour organization also is working with several other Detroit-based organizations that may need a more-visible presence to fill up the 3,500-square-foot space.

Besides operating as Inside Detroit's headquarters, the new storefront will be open seven days a week to steer visitors, downtown workers and residents to amenities and events. "Detroit has something for everybody, and we want to help you find it," says Maureen Kearns of Inside Detroit. She says walk-ins will be provided maps and information to help them navigate the city.

Inside Detroit also is willing to promote other Detroit-based independent businesses. The visitors center will also serve as a showcase for Detroit-based services and products such as Detroit Office Interiors, a company located in the Globe Building that is designing and furnishing the space.

Inside Detroit offers regularly scheduled walking and bike tours. Tours may concentrate on a topic, including architecture, food, entertainment venues or history. Check out their web site for details and nformation about setting up a custom tour.
