The Homes of Central Woodward Photo Essay

The Boston-Edison and Arden Park neighborhoods once housed some of the city's most prominent residents and entrepreneurs.

Car guys Henry Ford and James Couzins, Sebastian Kresge of the S.S. Kresge Co., and Tigers' owner Walter Briggs lived there. Judges, physicians, rabbis and auto barons called the stately mansions home.

Most of the homes — which represent a wide array of architectural styles — were built in the early decades of the last century. The first families moved into Boston-Edison in 1905.

For those who want more, many of the homes are showcased on the neighborhood's annual holiday home tour each December.
