Model D TV: The Whitney

Elegant and grand, the Whitney is Detroit classic — fine dining in one of the city’s finest mansions. New owner Bud Liebler tells Model D TV about his plans to “unstuff” the place, making it brighter, more lively, but still a star in the city’s dining scene.

The 1894 mansion on Woodward that houses Whitney is as elegant and emblematic of old Detroit as it gets. Inside, it oozes ambiance — giant Tiffany windows, intricate woodwork, etc.

Under new ownership, the restaurant is getting a facelift, raves from critics and, as Bud Liebler puts it, “unstuffed.” The new attitude, restoration and revamped menu aim to keep this place among the city’s most treasured fine dining establishments for more generations.
