Speaker Series Tonight: More Transit Please

Streetcars like this could drive the Motor City. And what if bike lanes where cyclists wouldn’t risk life and limb were the norm?  At our next Speaker Series, Oct. 21, we’ll feature two people — John Hertel and Scott Clein — who are working to make those dreams reality for Detroiters. Sign up here for the Model D Speaker Series on Oct. 21, when we’ll feature two people — John Hertel
and Scott Clein — both of whom are working to change the way Detroiters get around.

The Speaker Series event will be at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 21 at the Russell Industrial Center in the Motor City Movie House. Networking and a reception will follow the hour-long
presentation.

Hertel is the local transit czar, and will speak on the the Regional Transportation Coordinating Council’s recently released transit plan for Southeastern Michigan, including a streetcar down Woodward Avenue. (Hear more about it here from Model D Radio/Michigan Now reporter Chris McCarrus.)

Clein is an engineer with  Giffels-Webster, the firm which recently helped design a non-motorized plan that calls for more than 400 miles of bike lanes in Detroit. The plan recently got approval from Detroit City Council. Read more about it here.

The event is sponsored by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority and Model D, and is graciously being hosted by the Boydell Group and the Russell Industrial Center.
