Belle Isle taking shape for Grand Prix

Concrete is being poured at Belle Isle to improve racing conditions in preparation for the return of the Grand Prix to the Park. Because all monies generated from the race are being invested into the park, other work is going on as well.

The new concrete at Belle Isle is to create a comfortable racing environment for competitors and fans. But there are city-enhancing purposes in mind, as well. Senior vice president of Penske Corp. and event chairman Bud Denker said there are plans to possibly bring a three-on-three basketball tournament to the city, and courts could be set up there.

In the casino, walls are being re-plastered and painted, and the marble and brass fixtures are being cleaned and polished. Denker said he wants the casino to be ready for wedding season, so the renovations will be completed by May 11.
