McClure's Pickles moves to Detroit near Hamtramck, plans to hire 5-10

McClure's Pickles, one of Michigan's up-and-coming craft food companies, is moving its production facilities from Troy to a large commercial facility in Detroit, near the Russell Industrial Center and Hamtramck.

The 5-year-old firm plans expand its production significantly in the new facility, which ups its space from 3,000 square feet to 20,000 square feet. McClure's Pickles plans to move most of its production from a labor-intensive process to a more mechanized system that will allow the company to produce a greater variety of products.

"We shopped around quite a bit in Clawson, Troy and other places," says Joe McClure, co-owner of McClure's Pickles. "The best place was in Detroit. I love being involved in the city and have a presence here. This was also a great deal. It was move-in ready."

McClure's Pickles employs 23 people, including 18 in Metro Detroit and another five in New York City. The company hired five people over the last year as it doubled its revenue. It hopes to add another 5-10 people over the next year.

McClure's Pickles plans to add to its product line at the new facility. Among new products in the works are five gallon buckets of pickles and gallon containers of its bloody mary mix. "We hope to double or triple production," McClure says.
