SW Detroit lands new National City branch

A new National City branch will open later this month at West Vernor and Dragoon inside the newly-constructed West Vernor Crossing retail plaza.

It occupies 3,500 square feet of the 23,000-square foot plaza and includes drive-through windows.

Mona Hammoud, who is currently at the bank’s Dearborn branch, will be the business banking officer assigned to the new branch. She credits the activity of the Southwest Detroit Business Association and Mexicantown Community Development Corporation with bringing the bank into the neighborhood. She says National City “has been very active in the area and we felt that we should invest into a branch in the area.”

One Southwest Detroit project of note that National City invested in was the SDBA redevelopment of Oddfellows Hall (read about it here). Thursday, May 17, Preservation Wayne will hold their annual membership event at the Oddfellows with keynote speaker Patricia Gay, executive director of the Preservation Resource Center in New Orleans.
