SpaceLab Detroit, Detroit Cabinet Manufacturing open new coworking space in Northwest Detroit

Along with pop-up retail shops and restaurants, another trend that’s surged in popularity in Detroit over the past several years has been coworking and shared office spaces. Rather than work from home, entrepreneurs and independent contractors pay monthly rates, enjoying in shared resources and amenities, as well as networking opportunities.

And like pop-ups, the majority of coworking spaces to open in the city have been limited to the downtown Detroit core, an area that includes neighborhoods like Midtown and New Center.

It’s notable, then, that a new coworking space has been announced in a different part of the city.

Detroit Cabinet Manufacturing and SpaceLab Detroit have partnered to open SpaceLab 7Mile, a coworking space on the city’s northwest side. SpaceLab 7Mile is located at DCM’s showroom near Seven Mile and Meyers roads.

"Many of our current members are well established in the design and building industry, so partnering with DCM is a great fit for both companies," SpaceLab COO Bobby Burton says.

SpaceLab opened its first coworking and shared office space in downtown Detroit’s financial district in 2017.

The amenities at SpaceLab 7Mile include desks, office space, conference rooms, and mailbox services, all available at daily and monthly rates. The space is designed as a neighborhood hub for business owners, property owners, investors, designers, and builders.

Residential construction and renovation workshops are now being scheduled.

It’s a move that makes sense for Detroit Cabinet Manufacturing, which opened its commercial and retail showroom in the neighborhood in 2018. The company, which makes custom cabinetry, plumbing fixtures, and other building products, has stated its desire to share its space with other small business owners and create networking opportunities.

SpaceLab 7Mile is located at 12908 Seven Mile Road in Detroit.
