Leopold's book shop to open in Park Shelton this summer

Greg Lenhoff, a native Metro Detroiter who recently returned after stints in Chicago and New York City, is opening a book shop, Leopold's, in The Park Shelton building on Woodward in Midtown.

The store, named after the main character in the classic novel Ulysees by James Joyce, will be approximately 650 square feet and will occupy the space just south of the soon-to-come second location of Good Girls Go to Paris Crepes. Lenhoff aims to open his doors in July; build-out is underway.

Leopold's will stock independent comic books, art magazines and small press and local publications. Considering the reality of Amazon.com and its ilk, Lenhoff plans to specialize in "less 'mass-market' stuff...more difficult to find materials."

Lenhoff settled on Midtown because of its cultural and educational assets. As for The Park Shelton, it was all about the community. "Having Torya's crepe store next door was also a really good motivator for me," he says. "I'm really hoping that she gets lots of regular customers and, since we're literally next-door to each other, I really hope that people will go into Torya's store and stumble into mine and pick up a magazine to read while they are getting something to eat."

Leopold's is planned to be open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., but Model D will let its readers know for sure when it officially opens.
