Royale Theus was inspired to become a caregiver by his mother, a nurse who also helped take care if his dying grandmother after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Now Theus also takes care of his mother.

When he was 18 and just out of Detroit’s Mumford High School, he began working at FOCUS: Hope; then with the Detroit Health Department doing HIV testing and counseling in a mobile unit.

Theus is now director of the Michigan AIDS Coalition, a single dad and back in school pursuing a bachelor’s degree. Tom Hendrickson caught up to him for this episode of Model D TV.
