The next Model D Speaker Series will revisit the topic of sustainable urbanism, at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2008, at the Detroit Yacht Club on Belle Isle.

Sign up here.

Detroit architect Mark Nickita of Archive DS
will return with real Detroit examples of sustainability. Part one of
this topic, explored in March, proved extremely popular, so we’re
bringing it back.

Other speakers will be:

• Chris Bray of the Detroit Catholic Pastoral Alliance, whose Gratiot Woods developments offer examples of the principles of sustainable urbanism in action.

• And Diane VanBuren Jones of WARM Training,
who spearheaded
getting the American Institute of Architects’ sustainability audit for Detroit.

As always, the event is free, but you must sign up as seating is limited. The event starts with sign in at 5 p.m., followed by the program at 5:30 p.m.

Networking
and light refreshments will be available before and after the hour-long
program. There’s a cash bar, too. So plan to stay and mingle.

Plus, after the speakers, the DYC is inviting Model D’s guests to be guest
members for the evening — offering a chance to explore the facilities,
soak in the riverfront views and use the amenities, such as the restaurant
and bar. DYC members and staff will be happy to show you around after
the event.

The series is sponsored by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority and the Detroit Yacht Club.

Send questions to feedback@modeldmedia.com.

And save the date: A special speaker series and reception will be held Friday, June 20, at the Max M. Fisher Music Center in Midtown, as part of the DSO’s 8 Days in June festival and Model D’s 3-year Birthday.
