— Tossed, a gourmet restaurant franchise, wants to open 20 eateries locally in the next three to five years.
— "Detroit, when it comes to the quick casual restaurant business, has done extremely well," Schmitt said. "When you look at the volume compared to other cities, Detroit is always on the top tier. You have a very strong workforce that tends to eat out every day."
— A salad with a drink would cost on average about $9-$10. The chain also sells sandwich crepes, soups and smoothies.
— Opened in 1998 by Chef Marc Meisel, Daren Herzberg and Adam Cohen, the company has three restaurants in New York and New Jersey.
— Tossed restaurants range from 1,800 to 2,400 square feet and include seating for 35 to 50 customers. Restaurants typically cost about $375,000 to build.
— The first Tossed restaurants could open locally as soon as 2006.
