SOUP SPOON makes the semi-finals of Accelerate Michigan
The co-founders of SOUP SPOON believe they have invented a better spoon with what started out as a senior design project at the University of Detroit Mercy.
The plastic spoon has a suction cup for a handle that allows the user to control the amount of the soup in the bowl of the spoon. The idea is to help elderly users eat soup with more ease and less chance of creating a mess.
“We have been 3-D printing a number of models on our printer at school,” says Wesley Steen, co-founder of SOUP SPOON. “We have a functioning prototype but it’s not yet food safe. We are working on a food-safe version.”
SOUP SPOON has participated in TechTown’s Launch Detroit program. The 1-year-old startup, which has a team of two people, is also a semi-finalist in the Accelerate Michigan Innovation Competition. It has so far landed $10,500 in grants for seed capital.
