Located on the corner of Grand Boulevard and Hastings, the Chapp Building, once home to the first Packard Dealership in the world, is being converted into lofts by B & W Construction.
“We don’t believe in tearing down history,” says Steve Bias, owner of B & W.
The two-story building is being completely restored and will house 12 loft units, seven of which will be penthouses with private decks. There also will be a community rooftop deck for all tenants to use. In keeping with the historic feeling of the building, all units will feature the original hardwood floors and exposed brick. Additionally, the first floor of the building was lowered, allowing each unit to have 15-foot ceilings and loft space on a second level.
Units will range from 1,500 to 2,200 square feet, and range from $250,000 to $350,000. Secured parking in a garage will be provided for residents and guests.
The project broke ground in July and is anticipated to be complete by February. B & W plan to host a grand opening event in early 2006. A finished model already is available for viewing, and reservations are being taken.
