Bagley Housing celebrates decade of investment, will complete 23 homes in 2007

Bagley Housing Association will celebrate a decade of investment in Southwest Detroit, primarily in the Hubbard-Richard neighborhood, with a Jan. 18 open house that will feature works from local artists, live music and refreshments from the Honeybee Supermercado.

The agency currently has 8 affordable for-sale homes under construction and will begin building 15 more in early spring. They next plan to develop 8 market-rate homes just north of the recently-completed Ste. Anne's Gate condominiums; 49 of those 72 units have sold.

All of Bagley's new homes under construction feature Energy Star appliances and have received consultation from WARM Training towards other elements of green building. Executive Director Vince Murray predicts that, in just a few years, such considerations "will be standard."

Although this effort adds additional development costs, part of the increase is being covered by a $2,000-per-home grant from a Great Lakes Capital Fund/Enterprise Foundation partnership.
