Upon walking into a collision shop one doesn't usually think, "Man, this place is cool." But Campus Collision's new location, on Selden between Second and Third Avenues, challenges that notion.
Owners Bob Hall and Mike Kane bought the building two years ago and moved their operations from E. Forest in March. The building, which was built in 1921, has always been a collision shop until it went vacant a few years back.
The top-down renovation included basics like a new spray booth, doors, paint job, roof, plumbing and electrical. Where it gets interesting is the brick-enclosed bathroom and the waiting room and office the pair built in the building's northwest corner. The use of corrugated metal walls with windows punched in around all three sides gives the shop a modern,
Dwell-ish edge. Add in the stark white walls and high ceiling and the result is possibly the most well-designed collision shop you've ever seen.
Hall and Kane have been in the business since the 1970s. They are an approved vendor for the state of Michigan and also count Karmanos Cancer Center and Wayne State University among their regular clients.
