$1 million credit to help put 86 condos on East Side site

The Michigan Economic Development Council will award $1-million worth of tax credits to redevelop a vacant and contaminated site in the McDougal Hunt neighborhood on the city's East Side.

St. Paul Community Development Corp. plans to build new housing on the site, which is adjacent to St. Paul's AME Church in the neighborhood near Gratiot and Chene. The project will include 86 new attached condos ranging in size from 1,100 to 3,000-sqaure feet. They are expected to be priced between $150,000 and $240,000.

The project's first phase is set to break ground this summer. It is expected to generate more than $13 million in capital investment.
