Habitat for Humanity Detroit has dedicated nine new homes that began construction in September as part of
Habitat’s Annual Blitz Build. On Saturday, Nov. 19, two of the homes, located on Maryland Street between Warren and Mack on the East Side, celebrated their new homeowners.
Each dedication was officiated by the Rev. Ronald Cross of Metro Central Church of Christ and Habitat staff. The new homeowners also spoke; one, NaTae Harper, noted appreciatively how the volunteers that helped build her home “worked like it was their own home.” Harper and her son will soon occupy her 3-bedroom ranch.
Vision 2020, Habitat’s new partnership with community development group
U-SNAP-BAC, is targeting blight and vacancy in the Morningside Commons neighborhood where the 2006 Blitz Build focused.
