Construction starts on $4 million East Side nursing center

The fourth floor of East Side's Samaritan Center is under construction for the creation of a new nursing facility, Samaritan Manor. This will be the first new nursing facility for Detroit in over 20 years.

The $4 million renovation will convert the fourth floor’s 90,000 square feet into four sections with space for 120 residents. Samaritan Manor will have 38 private rooms, community dining rooms and common living rooms in each section, and a 24-hour nursing staff. The manor will be managed by Advantage Management Group, a national firm that operates seven other nursing facilities in Michigan.

Brother Francis Boylan, president of the Samaritan Center, says the nursing facility will primarily serve elderly patients and provide short-term rehabilitation, hospice and skilled nursing and geriatric care. Over 100 new jobs are expected to be created for the new facility.

Trinity Design provided the interior and architectural designs for the project, construction will be done by George W. Auch Company. Samaritan Manor is scheduled to be completed by early January of 2007. For more information call (888) 677-7055 or go to www.themanors.net/samaritan.htm.

The Samaritan Center is located on Conner Avenue just south of I-94 in the former Mercy Hospital complex.
