Slow's Bar BQ purchases Midtown building for carry-out and catering customers

Slow's is movin' on up: the popular Corktown bar-b-que joint has purchased a building at the northwest corner of Cass and Alexandrine to expand its operations into Midtown.

The one-story building is 6,000 square feet and was most recently used as a church. It will be used for carry-out and catering, and will also serve as the smoking HQ for both Slow's locations. A private dining facility will also be available for on-site small parties.

Ryan Cooley is a minority partner in the restaurant and the president of O'Connor Real Estate and Development, the firm handling the purchase and build-out of the facility. He hopes to secure financing soon and expects to be open in summer or fall of 2009 after finalizing permits, zoning and licensing.

Cooley says that Slow's had been looking for the ideal space for an expansion for a year-and-a-half in the Greater Downtown area. "This building happened to be a perfect fit for what we were looking for,"  he says. "With all the retail that seems to be popping up in the area, and all the housing, it seemed to be a good fit."
