Detroit’s Garden Resource Program sponsors 2nd city agriculture tour

Tours will highlight the many urban gardens and farms within Detroit on Saturday, Aug. 9 at 4:30 p.m.

About 350 people participated in last year's tour. This year, one bus will tour West Side farms, another East Side farms.

The Garden Resource Program is sponsored by the Detroit Agriculture Network, Earthworks Garden/ Capuchin Soup Kitchen, the Greening of Detroit, and Michigan State Extension Wayne County. Together they support urban agriculture and sustainable farming practices.

The tour will begin and end at the Catherine Ferguson Academy at 2750 Selden on Detroit’s Southwest side. Prior registration is required and can be done by phone or e-mail. Contact Ashley Atkinson, at 313-237-8736 or via email at [email protected]. A harvest potluck is planned for after the tour at 8 p.m.

Some of the scheduled gardens the tour will visit include the 4-H Community Center on the East Side, the newly created Black Food Security Network Garden on the East Side, the community garden at Romanowski Park on the West Side and the Catherine Ferguson Academy’s garden.
