What a find: Model D TV shines a light on authors of ‘Lost Detroit’
Dan Austin and Sean Doerr straddle the line between fine art and historic preservation. They do work that we advise you don’t try at home. Hit play on the video and you’ll see what all who’ve seen it are raving about.
Documentary workers Dan Austin and Sean Doerr have a
web-based project called “Buildings of Detroit,” a platform for
exploring architecture that inarguably ranks with some of the best in
the world. Some is gorgeously intact, some isn’t. But the duo shows
equal passion for all of it, turning their hands-on research into a stunning new book
called Lost Detroit.
Videographer Tom Hendrickson caught
up to Austin, before the author embarked on more gritty urban adventures,
for this episode of Model D TV.
Editor’s note: The authors of Lost Detroit: Stories Behind the Motor City’s Majestic Ruins, will appear together with John Gallagher, author of Reimagining Detroit, for a talk and book signing Oct. 28, 7 p.m., at Leopold’s Books, 15 E. Kirby, in Midtown Detroit’s Cultural Center.
