Video: Ezekiel Harris, young nonprofit exec, tells the story of The Commons development

The Commons, a 12,000 sq. ft. building located at 7900 Mack Ave, will be a laundromat, coffee shop, and community center all in one. This seemingly modest development will provide crucial services to residents of the 48214 zip code on Detroit's east side.

The CDC that's spearheading this project, MACC Development, is run by Ezekiel Harris, a 24-year-old former Challenge Detroit Fellow. Watch him tell the story of the creation of The Commons, which is set to open at the end of the summer.

This story is part of The Community Development Advocates of Detroit's (CDAD) Community Storytelling Initiative, a project to share important stories of work being done in Detroit's world of community development. Storytelling by Troy Anderson with assistance from Final5

CDAD is a nonprofit membership organization that is a catalyst for transformation of Detroit neighborhoods, led and inspired by residents, community-based organizations, and other stakeholders.
