Fair looks to turn internships into jobs in Detroit

The Detroit Regional Chamber is hosting an "Internship 201: Hiring Interns and Co-op Students" conference at The Atheneum Hotel in Greektown on Monday. The half-day event will make the argument on why having interns is valuable to businesses, the local economy and how best to take advantage of what interns bring to the table.

To help drive this home the chamber cites a study conducted by the Internship
Institute that shows how managers can create 225 full 8-hour workdays of productivity in a year by utilizing college interns. Internship programs are also seen as key to helping stanch Metro Detroit and Michigan’s brain drain by keeping and attracting young talent.

David Brandon, chairman and CEO of Domino's Pizza will lead a panel discussion on the importance of interns at the conference.
