The Let's Meet in the D initiative is bringing in more dollars to the Motor City.

A Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau program to get local companies to hold their meetings and conventions in Detroit is showing results, said Chris Ilitch, chairman of the bureau's board of directors.
Since its inception last May, the "Let's Meet in the D!" initiative has netted 20 meetings in the region that will generate an estimated $13.5 million in spending, Ilitch said. The meetings range from a dozen workers to 8,000 people. A total of 22 companies have agreed to hold meetings locally instead of going out-of-state, Ilitch added.
"It's especially important in these tough economic times to draw upon our own considerable local resources and I've think we've made tremendous progress," Ilitch said.
