The YMCA is looking to make a move back to downtown soon. The non-profit hopes to move its administrative offices back downtown within the next year and a half.
"We’ve been looking to come back downtown for a few years," says Dan Maier, executive vice president of
YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit, adding that they haven't made a decision yet on a location.
The YMCA moved its Metro Detroit offices to PVS Chemicals' offices on the east side after it sold its home about a decade ago. Its old home was razed to make way for Comerica Park and Ford Field. The new Boll YMCA downtown is only meant for recreation and education services. There isn't enough office space in the building to accommodate the YMCA's needs.
The nonprofit's staff is now mixed in with the staff of PVS Chemicals. However, YMCA officials would like to get them into their own space sooner rather than later. They are looking for about 7,000 to 10,000 square feet of office space downtown.
