Excerpts from the article:
Here are some highlights of what’s in store when “Jimmy Kimmel Live” hits the Motor City for pre-Super Bowl shows:
• When Kimmel promises Detroit-themed shows, he speaks as someone who knows the area (and not just from layovers at Metro Airport). He says his ex-wife's family lives nearby. And he hung out here with Eminem once, doing prank phone calls for Comedy Central's "Crank Yankers."
• The bulk of the 300 to 400 audience members who'll attend Kimmel's nightly tapings at the Gem Theatre will be local residents, or so says "Kimmel" executive producer Duncan Gray. Take that, you high-rolling Super Bowl visitors.
• Kimmel is making a list of iconic Detroit images that might be good for the show's opening montage. So far, he likes the Big Tire.
• Show regular Cousin Sal, who irritates people for hidden-camera bits, may be working the Motown Winter Blast. "There's supposed to be a giant winter slide or something, so I guess I'll be pushing people down it," said Sal, who accompanied Kimmel to Detroit. "I think they're taking out extra insurance on that."
