Short for “wireless fidelity”, the Wi-Fi is the popular term for a high-frequency wireless local area network (WLAN). Wi-Fi technology is rapidly gaining acceptance in many companies as an alternative to a wired LAN. What this really translates to, is that you can get to the internet without a phone, DSL, or any kind of wired connection.
In order to use the free hotspot in the lobby at the Rowland Café, patrons can request a free ticket that contains their temporary username/password to log on to the free Wi-Fi. But, they will need to bring their own laptop which houses a wireless card. When the browser is brought up, a welcome screen will emerge where their username/password needs to be entered. After that, they are free to browse the web/check email, etc.
