'Living Detroit' site collects city stories

WSU's new Living Detroit site uses video to document people telling stories of Detroit's past.

Starting today, anyone who goes online to www.livingdetroit.wayne.edu/wiki should be able to hear the voice of Martin and others from southeast Michigan give their recollections about important events.

The college, along with the Luella Hannan Memorial Foundation, created the Web site to chronicle the region's history.

"We have to take pride in the past, confront the challenges of the present and imagine a humane future together," said Jerry Herron, dean of Wayne State's Irvin D. Reid Honors College, where the Web site is based.

About 25 students are dedicated to videotaping stories, collecting memorabilia and mapping historical details that slip away with the passing of generations.
