Detroit Popcorn Co. reborn in industrial area

Excerpts from the article:

Owner David Farber took the reins at Detroit Popcorn Co. in April 2005.

Founded in 1923, Detroit Popcorn makes popcorn, caramel corn and cheese corn in a 70,000-square-foot building on Greenfield just north of I-96.  It also provides equipment and supplies for making popcorn and other snack foods like snow cones and cotton candy that are popular in backyard birthday parties and company picnics.

The article says Farber was attracted to Detroit Popcorn because it’s a fun business with a wide array of products that would be hard to duplicate by either a local competitor or Internet suppliers. He’s betting a $200,000 boost to inventory and a $200,000 investment in the company’s infrastructure will turn things around.

Farber plans on increasing popcorn production by selling 5-ounce bags at gas stations and convenience stores.
