A few properties are commanding top dollar. But overall, the large number of suitable venues across the region is keeping prices in check, said Gael Sandoval, manager of housing and events for the Super Bowl XL Host Committee.
“It’s supply and demand,” Sandoval said. “We have a good supply of available venues, both traditional and nontraditional,” she said. “That wasn’t the case in Jacksonville last year.”
Between 200 and 300 regional sites agreed to take part in a host committee program that gave the NFL and its affiliates first refusal until Sept. 1, Sandoval said.
Venues that are getting top dollar can do so because they have multiple offers, Sandoval said.
ESPN Inc. has leased the Town Pump Tavern for Thursday through Sunday and also the Iodent Building, which houses Centaur, a nightclub that opened in August. Both the Town Pump and the Iodent are owned by Sean Harrington. ESPN is also negotiating with Forbes Management to lease the nearby Colony Club Building, confirmed Bill Hofheimer, ESPN director of communications.
Elysium Lounge in Detroit is booked Wednesday night through Friday night and then on Super Bowl night, said co-owner Ivid Bahoura.
The Upper Deck Co., a trading cards and gaming systems company, is hosting a private party Thursday, Bahoura said. For closing the bar to the public, Elysium’s owners will get between $70,000 and $150,000, depending on how many people show up and how much they drink.
