Excerpts from the article:
Anderson’s company, Maroon City Development Co., won approval for the project Dec. 13 from the Detroit Economic Development Corp.
The primary project site is 20 acres located between the I-96 and I-94, just east of Livernois Avenue. A gateway entry site is designated at Livernois and Carbondale streets.
The proposed $24 million seafood factory would include a fish hatchery and a cleaning, processing and packing plant as well as handling distribution and delivery, said James Ribbron, a planner with the Detroit City Planning Commission.
Anderson, reached by phone Friday in Los Angeles, said he is there raising capital for the first phase of the project. He is seeking investors from around the country, including Detroiters.
He said plans call for groundbreaking by summer for the seafood plant, which could be operating within 24-30 months, and produce up to 5 million pounds of fish a year.
The second phase, costing an estimated $20 million, would include small plants for supporting and related businesses, such as manufacturing containers, plasticware, juice, drinks and bottled water. He said retail development could follow.
