More than 3.8 million Detroit visitors stayed in hotels or motels in the area in 2004.
“With a successful 2004 Ryder Cup and 2005 All-Star Game behind us, metro Detroit can look forward to national attention for marquee events like Super Bowl XL, the NCAA Men’s Final Four in 2009 and NCAA Frozen Four in 2010,” says Larry Alexander, DMCVB president and CEO.
The report states there are signs that the tourism industry is gaining momentum and will continue to grow in 2005 and 2006. Metro area tourism will benefit from several downtown community improvement projects now under way. Super Bowl XL in Detroit on Feb. 5 also will help the industry’s growth.
The DMCVB also compiles a publication called Tourism Barometer as a monthly resource for the local business community and media.
