Detroit Goodfellows and police raise $76,000 for children

The group's 2005 fundraising goal is $1.5 million. To date, the Detroit Goodfellows have raised a total of $723,000 including money from Newspaper Sales Day, various fundraising events, and the members' letter-writing campaign where they solicit contributions and other donations.

This is the 91st anniversary of the Old Newsboys' Goodfellow Fund of Detroit, best known for its Christmas gift program for children in need.

“No Kiddie Without A Christmas" remains the mission of the Detroit Goodfellows. Each year the organization distributes Christmas gift packages to Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park children in need. This year 36,000 gift packages will be distributed containing warm clothes, books, candy and toys.
