Detroit visitors set to have an expanded Winter Blast

Officials said this year Winter Blast will occupy more than 14 city blocks in downtown Detroit and feature activities such as sled dogs, ice sculptures, figure skating performances and 60 local musical acts. A Winter Blast held last year served as a warm-up for this year's.

Super Bowl visitors will get to taste a variety of foods during Winter Blast, including hand-sized shrimp from The Palm of Troy to great soup at Zoup of Ann Arbor or the spicy chicken from Jackson's Five Star Catering of Detroit. There will be 40 restaurants to choose from.

Winter Blast will also feature outdoor entertainment zones, including the General Motors Ice Garden, Ford Motor Co. Family Fun Zone, Dodge Chrysler Jeep Taste of Detroit and the Michigan Winter Experience.

Motown Winter Blast is Feb. 2-5. The event is free and open to the public from 4 p.m. to midnight Thursday, Feb. 2; 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3-4; and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5. For information, call (313) 963-8418.
